KAROL RATHAUS (1895-1954): Trio Serenade for Violin, Cello and Piano, Op. 69, Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano, Op. 53 (First Recordings).
Catalogue Number: 06W041
Description: These two pieces from 1953 and 1944 respectively, constituting a small fragment of the author’s oeuvre, demonstrate Rathaus’ originality and creative ability to find his own harmonic style after the collapse of the major-minor tonal system. His style is reminiscent of such composers as Stravinsky, Hindemith, Křenek, Bartók and Milhaud. These trios delightfully balance combination of the rhythmic element and lyricism while their logic of construction and expressive structure are admirable. Karol Rathaus Ensemble.
