Description: Written sometime before 1908 (according to the next-to-useless notes), this sonata by a Polish Jewish composer later known as a successful operetta author in Paris offers a strikingly melancholy first movement subject (earwormish), moderated but not effaced by its second theme, a stoic yet noble andante, a scherzo frothy with Slavic folk music and a forthright, optimistic finale - how could something like this not be known today? Well, that goes for most things we offer here at RI. The shorter pieces are in good salon style. Jaroslaw Pietrzak (violin), Julita Przybylska-Nowak (piano).
