GIORGIO FEDERICO GHEDINI (1892-1965): Complete Music for Violin and Piano - Sonata in A, Sonata in E Flat, Bizzarria, 3 poemi. World Premiere Recordings of everything but the E Flat sonata (which was first done back in 1986 by Dynamic).
Catalogue Number: 06O062
Description: The sonatas are from 1918 and 1922 and are both from the period before Ghedini began to incorporate early Italian instrumental music into his personal style; the A major work is tranquil, serene and expressive throughout with an "Oriental" touch to its finale while the later work is much more virtuosic - tense and anxious in the first movement, dark and mysterious in the second with a tense, elaborate passacaglia for a finale. The two six-minute Poemi and the four-minute Bizzarria are closer to the quiet calm of the first sonata. Emy Bernecoli (violin), Massimo Giuseppe Bianchi (piano).
