VIKTOR KOSENKO (1896-1938): Piano Sonatas No. 1 in B Flat Minor, Op. 3, No. 2 in C Sharp Minor, Op. 14 & No. 3 in B Minor, Op. 15.

Description: Almost five years ago, a Kosenko release by this pianist came out on the Toccata Classics label marked "Volume One" (10I007) so, apparently, for whatever reason, that series didn't work out. Here are his three sonatas, dating from 1919, 1924 and 1929, the First and Third in single-movement form and the Second in the traditional three. All are in the late Romantic dramatic and virtuosic style melding Western European harmonic and rhythmic language with elements of Ukrainian folk music. Natalya Shkoda (piano).
