Description: The vast majority of Martinu's songs date from 1910-12 and tend towards Czech folk-inspired music (and texts) and Dvorákian Romanticism (actually the former goes for many of the songs of the 20s and 30s too). Brief (mostly under three minutes), full of rhythmic and melodic hooks, they're almost uniformly delightful although, at almost 80 minutes, you may not want to try to listen to all 41 tracks at the same time! Texts and translations available on-line. Jana Wallingerová (mezzo), Giorgio Koukl (piano).
