Description: This concerto was written in 1865 for a cellist who kept the manuscript; the work was never orchestrated by Dvorák and only came to light after his death when it was acquired by the British Museum. It was orchestrated by Jarmil Burghauser with cello part retouchings by cellist Milos Sádlo and published in 1975; Sádlo recorded it with the Czech Philharmonic and Václav Neumann for Supraphon in 1976. That's the only other recording of the work in this version until now. The original cello-and-piano manuscript version appeared on Supraphon in 2002. That was 56 minutes long; this, like Sádlo's recording, is right around 33 minutes. The Supraphon is long out of print so anyone unfamiliar with this early concerto can thank cpo for this new recording. Ramon Jaffé (cello), Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie; Daniel Raiskin.
