Description: These four works, which might loosely be described as tone poems (three of them in concertante forms), reflect aspects of the natural world. To this end, García employs constantly changing time signatures to give his slowly undulating structures an organic freedom from artificial regular pulse. The composer's willingness to allow relatively simple material to evolve slowly over time may reflect his studies with Feldman, but there is little similarity otherwise; García is more concerned with harmony, often rich and consonant, for one thing. Because of their contemplative natural origins they are more immediately accessible than the human drama and anguish of the works we previously offered by this composer (10Q083). All the works incorporate creative coloristic elements to balance the slow minimalism of their basic flow; wind chimes, extended techniques inside the piano, resonating wine glasses, vocalizations and hazes of unpitched or cluster sonorities, for instance. The titles tell you all you need to know about the nature of the evocative atmosphere of each piece; the fourth work, composed for this recording as a companion to the others, brings elements of each together to create a richly sonorous landscape. Jennifer Choi (violin), Cristina Valdés (piano), Fernando Domínguez (clarinet), Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra; Orlando Jacinto García.
