Description: It might come as a surprise to find Per Nørgård producing the most immediately accessible work on this disc - a ten-minute triptych from 1968 inspired by pseudo-Balkan folkisms and popular music of the period. Koppel's (2009) is also grounded in popular music - jazz and tango in this case with a film-score quality often evident. Lohse was inspired by Pärtish minimalism to produce a mix of neo-Romanticism and a dreamy, new-agey type vibe (2008). The elder statesman Schmidt (1958) offers the most conservative credentials - Stravinsky and Bartók - in his work which is likely the first modern accordion concerto.
