Description: The two rarities here are the 1854 arrangement of Gluck’s overture to which Wagner added a new ending of his own (the version recorded here is that of the original manuscript only discovered in the late 1990s and not the one cobbled together later in his life by Wagner’s publishers which also has been recorded); and the 4:32 Träume - a birthday serenade for Mathilde Wesendock based on one of the lieder which were dedicated to her. Track 6 of the disc is a DVD performance of the Siegfried Idyll on the very staircase of Wagner’s Swiss villa in Tribschen where it was first performed for his mistress Cosima von Bülow (authentic geography performance?). Daniel Kobyliansky (violin), Louise Pellerin (oboe), Bienne Symphony Orchestra; Thomas Rösner.
