JOSEPH MARTIN KRAUS (1756-1792): Viola Concertos in E Flat, C, Concerto for Viola, Cello and Orchestra in G, VB 153a-c.
Catalogue Number: 05N028
Reference: ODE 1193-2
Description: World Premiere Recordings of three concertos probably dating from 1777-81, or before Kraus had achieved career success in Sweden. Previously thought to have been composed by the same Hofstetter who probably wrote the Op. 3 string quartets supposedly by Haydn, their true authorship only came to light when Breitkopf’s original manuscript copy recently was found to be in Kraus’ handwriting. They’re everything you’d expect them to be from a composer who, along with Mozart, were the only two men Haydn considered to be musical geniuses. David Aaron Carpenter (viola), Tapiola Sinfonietta.
