Description: The French title above comes from a series of publications by the Amsterdam printer Estienne Roger which, intended for German and English markets, revised the odd Versailles orchestra with its “large cellos” and three different kinds of viola into the common two violins, viola, cello, bass we’re all familiar with today. Thus, a period instrument recording of a “bastardized” version of Lully’s orchestration but quite authentic in its own way. These artists have created a different-sized orchestra for each suite (more authenticity - no particular court or theatre would have the same number of available musicians). Capriccio; Dominik Kiefer.
