Description: Although written almost 20 years apart, the sonatas by the teenage Strauss and the 41-year-old Thuille (who were boyhood friends) are full of passionate and late‐ romantic soaring themes, a profound lyricism and a virtuoso writing for both cello and piano, demostrating the latter’s profound conservatism.
