Description: The second recording in less than two years of Weiner's rich, late Romantic orchestration (from 1955) of Liszt's famous sonata; at times Impressionist, at times Expressionist, it becomes a fascinating tone poem. As to the couplings: the first work listed is a 1949 orchestration, lushly Impressionistic, of a 1911 piano piece; the Passacaglia is also an orchestration (1955) of a piano piece (partially lost, of 1904). Toy Soldiers (1924) is a bright and delightful little four-minute piece which was originally written for orchestra. Minor stuff perhaps, but Weiner collectors will be pleased.
