Description: The second Naxos Ohzawa disc brings us a symphony from 1934 for a large orchestra, using a variety of percussion, triple winds and celesta with a highly original second movement - a set of two Aria-Toccata pairs for solo instruments (cor anglais; violin, two clarinets; and flute, bassoon, viola and cello) in the neo-baroque style which Martinu and Stravinsky were also writing in Paris at the time. Also written in Paris in 1935 was the concerto whose stylistic kaleidoscope extends from jazz and Japanese melodies to Expressionism, neo-classicism and Impressionism. Ekaterina Saranceva (piano), Russian Philharmonic Orchestra; Dmitri Yablonsky.
