Description: The major find here is 1923’s Fata Morgana, a 31-minute setting of five poems from Tagore’s “The Gardener”. The tenor is active less than half of this time as the instrumentalists play extended preludes, interludes and epilogues when not supporting the voice or commenting on text. The atmosphere is charged with an often desperate eroticism, exotic in nature and quasi-Expressionist while still founded in decaying late Romanticism. For those who love their Verklärte Nacht, Schreker and Zemlinsky. Czech-English texts. Anita Watson (soprano), Anna Starushkevych (mezzo), Nicky Spence (tenor), James Platt (bass), Navarra Quartet, Lada Valešová (piano).
