Description: The sonata and short horn-and-piano pieces have been recorded before in the short-lived AK Coburg label’s Draeseke series but the only previous recording of the horn quintet was on MD&G in 1996, before our time as RI stewards. Dating from 1888, it’s a big, four-movement work of some 37 minutes but it’s not a weighty, Brahmsian piece, but rather a light and cheerful one with the horn mostly providing warmth and a depth of backdrop. Hervé Joulain (horn), Pascal Moraguès (clarinet), Lisa Schatzman (violin), Marie Chilemme (viola), David Pia (cello), Oliver Triendl (piano).
