FERDINAND RIES (1784-1838): Complete Flute Quartets, Vol. 1 - in D Minor, WoO 35,1 and in C, Op. 145,1, String Trio in E Flat, WoO 70,1.

Description: Ries wrote six flute quartets, three with the deceivingly high opus number from 1814-15 when he was in England (notice the Scottish bagpipe-like bass drone in the final movement) and three between 1826 and 1830 when he was back in Germany. These are fine and attractive examples of early Romanticism while the early (c.1801-05) string trio concerns itself with Classical models. Ardinghello Ensemble.
