GIOVANNI BATTISTA PESCETTI (1704-1766): Complete Keyboard Music - 10 Sonatas (London 1739), 6 Sonatas.
Catalogue Number: 03S027
Label: Brilliant Classics
Description: Friend of Galuppi and impresario-rival in London of Handel, Pescetti has yet to emerge from the shadows. His ten 1739 sonatas are composed in a transitional idiom between the Baroque and galant styles. The second set of sonatas, written around 15 years later, fully inhabit the galant idiom, with much less counterpoint and more abundant use of melody and arching harmonic expression. 2 CDs. Paolo Bottini (1750 Nacchini organ of S. Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, 1743 Nacchini organ of S. Cassiano, Venice, harpsichord [Sonata No. 10]).
