Description: We are compelled to offer this outlandish goulash of a release by the utterly winning Baksa concerto of 2010. The composer was born in Romania near the Hungarian border and his concerto is a loving tribute to the polyglot musical culture of that portion of the former Austro-Hungarian empire: Hungarian, Croatian, Gypsy and, via a waltz, Austrian styles are molded into a three-movement, 28-minute piece which could almost be a soundtrack to a travelogue documentary of the region. Herbert Kefer (viola), Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra; Martin Kerschbaum.
