Description: These are early works, dating from 1871, 1874 and 1875, so one expects and gets loads of influences of the Leipzig School (Mendelssohn and Schumann) and even plain references to Schumann twice in the Phantasiestücken, but what is remarkable is how, suddenly, a personal voice appears in the latest work, the sonata. And even then, just in two movements; the first is Leipzig School, the slow one suggests late Beethoven, but you’d be hard-pressed to identify any particular influence in the scherzo and finale.
