Description: Here is Persichetti the miniaturist: there are 32 tracks on a disc of 53 minutes. The longest piece is the newly discovered (by the violinist here) violin sonata which was written in 1941 and shows an interest in twelve-tone technique (although the composer has said that he always began writing with a row of twelve, or more, or fewer tones which he then manipulated). But most of the rest of these works, some of which were didactic in intent (like the piano Sonatinas Nos. 4-6), are lyrical, playful, dramatic, thoughtful pieces which in the case of Masques (1965) also allude to contemporary composers. All are world premiere recordings. Hasse Borup (violin), Heather Conner (piano).
