GIOVANNI PAISIELLO (1740-1816): Le finte Contesse
Catalogue Number: 03P042
Reference: GB 2462/63-2
Description: This is an example of the later form of Intermezzo - a two-act comedy stripped to the bare essentials: four characters only with duets or ensembles beginning and ending each of the acts and recit-aria alternations the rest of the way. It gave the young Paisiello an opportunity to concentrate on color and characterization using only the essentials. The 1766 work is performed on period instruments according to the only score surviving: violins and bass. 2 CDs. Italian-English libretto. Maria Luisa Casali, Antje Rux (sopranos), Alessandro Scotto Di Luzio (tenor), Andrea Bonsignore (baritone), Baroque Orchestra "La Confraternita de' musici"; Cosimo Prontera (harpsichord).
