PAUL KLETZKI (1900-1973): Violin Sonata in D, Op. 12, Piano Trio in D, Op. 16.
Catalogue Number: 03P015
Description: Both these works date from the early years of Kletzki's career as composer when he was living in Berlin (1924 and 1926 respectively) and was being published by the prestigious firms of Simrock and Breitkopf & Härtel. The expressionist quality, the jagged contrasts in mood and highly chromatic harmonies (Szymanowski comes immediately to mind) are in keeping with the general spirit of those heady years in the German capital. The piano trio dials back some of the expressionist glare - or is it just the deeper voice of the cello? - in a piece which exhibits more of the sound of its late Romantic predecessors. Adam Manijak (piano), Magdalena Kling-Fender (violin), Lukasz Blaszczyk (violin - sonata), Robert Fender (cello).
