Description: Falling in love with a local girl during a vacation at the age of 20 set off a burst of creativity in Langgaard which, among other things, led to a series of works called Rose Garden Play. The one recorded here is a World Premiere Recording, was written in the summer of 1918 and is in the composer's wildly eclectic, "use whatever you want from whatever period", style. The A flat quartet was composed at the same time and almost entirely in Viennese Classical style, perhaps in the spirit of Prokoviev's Classical Symphony. No. 4 was cobbled together in 1931 by revising the first and fourth movements of Rose Garden Play and the second movement of his "String Quartet No. 1" of 1915. Nightingale String Quartet.
