FERDINAND REBAY (1880-1953): Quartets in D Minor for Guitar and String Trio and in A Minor for Guitar, Flute, Viola and Cello.
Catalogue Number: 03N062
Label: Brilliant Classics
Description: The second disc of crepuscular, late Romantic music from this Viennese pedagogue who only discovered the guitar around 1924 but then produced a large body of compositions for it in various chamber formations. These quartets date, respectively, from 1925 and 1942, the latter containing echoes of Wagner and Schubert in its sweeping lyricism (Rebay was stripped of his teaching postions because he had a Jewish wife, leaving him a lot of time to compose after the Anschluss). Gonzalo Noqué (guitar), Alicia Fernández-Cueva (flute), Raúl Galindo (violin), Pedro Michel Torres (viola), Jacobo Villalba (cello).
