Description: The third disc of Catoire's violin/piano works in less than two years! The first sonata (1900) is in a traditional three-movement form and the Romanticism of Rachmaninov is tempered by a Gallic reserve while the work's chromaticism and rhythmic finess as well as a relaxed view of tonality look ahead to the Second of 1906, a single-movement work of 20 minutes where lyricism and poetry alternate with a feverish or dreamy sensuality quite reminiscent of Scriabin. Laurent Albrecht Breuninger (violin), Anna Zassimova (piano).
