Description: This goulash of wind music is here for the Bird, an 1889 chamber-sized work which takes up over a third of the disc's 76-minute length (all other pieces are for a full-size wind band). Bird spent most of his life in Berlin and thought Richard Strauss was the worst thing to happen to music, so you will find nothing here which would be out of place in Brahms or Dvorák and the suite almost as attractive as any wind music they wrote. Peabody Conservatory Wind Ensemble; Harlan D. Parker.
