SIMON MAYR (1763-1845): Piano Concertos No. 1 in C and No. 2 in D (World Premiere Recordings), JOSEPH HAYDN (1732-1809): Symphony No. 25 in C.

Description: We know Mayr for his large output of operas, oratorios and cantatas but he also wrote two symphonies and these two concertos. Neither the notes nor the “New Grove” have dates for them but they’re full-sized Classical pieces, 16:30 and 23:56 in length respectively, and, Mayr having worked most of his life in Italy, they compare nicely with Paisiello’s and the second, at least, is reminiscent of earlier Mozart concerti.
