ALEXANDER MOYZES (1906-1984): Symphonies No. 9, Op. 69 and No. 10, Op. 77.
Catalogue Number: 02U008
Format: CD reissue
Description: The premiere of the Ninth took place in 1971, only three years after the Soviet-led invasion of the composer’s homeland, and the work’s dark and dramatic atmosphere depicts the tragedy and hopelessness of this period. By contrast, the serene colors of the Tenth (1977-78) avoid political connotations, and the piece is stylistically typical of the composer’s last decade in its technical virtuosity, formal elegance and brilliant artistic design. Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra; Ladislav Slovák. Original 2001 Marco Polo release.
