Description: Sometimes, while researching scores by Polish composers, the owner of this label happens upon other attractive material. Thus this hour’s worth of French late Romanticism from a violist, composer, conductor and, from 1891 until his death, the director of the Lille Conservatory. The two main works are the dozen character pieces from 1886 (where along with both “Melancholy” and “Sadness” you’ll find “The Poet’s Heart” and nine more sketches in music), and the 16-minute sonata of 1906, short in time but long in gracious melody. Marcin Murawski (viola), Hanna Holeksa (piano).
