Description: We offered the three Ullmann pieces just under five years ago (see April 2010 - 04L005 for notes on them) but the 26-minute duo by Schul, like Ullmann's symphonies composed in Terezin, appears to be a first recording. Missing over half of its first movement, it's a 1943 work which draws on the Germanic Romantic tradition with echoes of Schubert and Mozart in that truncated first movement and which closes with a 14-minute theme-and-variations that are heart-easingly melodic.
