GIOVANNI PACINI (1796-1867): Il convitato di pietra.
Catalogue Number: 02M051
Description: This 1832 opera is unique in being written by its composer for private performance by his family and friends. The libretto makes use of previous libretti on the Don Giovanni subject used by Gazzaniga and Fabbrizi as well as Da Ponte's most famous one. Don Giovanni, Zerlina and Ficcanaso (= Leporello) require virtuosic singers (the Don is a high Rossinian tenor here) while the smaller roles are less demanding and a small male chorus and chamber orchestra (strings and a pair of flutes) are the modest remaining requirements. Lasting a mere 92 minutes, it still will be of great interest to collectors of Italian bel canto. 2 CDs. Italian libretto available on-line. Leonardo Cortellazzi (tenor), Geraldine Chuvet (mezzo), Zinovia-Maria Saferiadou (soprano), Ugo Guagliardo (bass), Translyvania State Philharmonic Choir, Cluj, Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim; Daniele Ferrari.
