Description: The 1866 Grand Sonata was the first American organ sonata and it has a symphonic feel to its four movements, full of melodious and easy to follow thematic working-out; it would sound equally good for a full orchestra. Conversely, his Star-Spangled Banner variations, which some may know from their orchestral version, are equally entertaining in this, their original version. The second sonata (1877) assimilates Brahms and Wagner into a mature Buck style quite separate from the somewhat simpler Grand Sonata.
