Description: The length of or future offerings in the Dacapo Koppel series being unknown, enthusiasts of the composer will take note that these are the two piano concertos not otherwise available on disc, the first (1932) with a Stravinskian first movement and a short Nielsenesque andante quieto followed by a much more unorthodox but still identifiably neo-classical finale. The Fourth (1963) uses a tone-row (one of the few times Koppel did this) but the repetition of notes within the row makes it sound melodic without fixed tonality rather than dodecaphonic. Paw and Palle are short pieces of music for childrens' films, the former attractively Impressionistic (unlike anything else Koppel wrote!) while the second disc features the composer as pianist in works of various styles by his sons and two composer colleagues. 2 CDs. Mono. Herman D. Koppel (piano).
