GIULIO CACCINI (1551-1618): L'Euridice.
Catalogue Number: 02K016
Reference: RIC 269
Description: Although Peri's work using the same libretto was performed first in 1600 during the wedding celebrations of Henry IV of France and Maria de' Medici, Caccini's was the first in print and his lyricism, emotion and skilled vocal writing show his L'Euridice to be the true forerunner of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo. World premiere recording of this member of the small group of "first operas" from the turn of the 17th century. Italian-English texts. Nicolas Achten (baritone), Céline Vieslet (soprano), Scherzi Musicali; Nicolas Achten (theorbo).
