Description: Technically demanding and harmonically advanced, Munktell’s 1905 sonata has energy in its fast movements, a melodically beautiful slow movement and hints of Swedish folk music and was part of an all-Swedish violin-and-piano disc we offered just six months ago (06V034). This new release offers a small-scale piano trio, probably an early work and possibly composed for performance at one of the musical salons at the Munktell family home in Stockholm and a half-hour’s worth of finely crafted songs from 1892 displaying a wide expressive range and variety of moods.
