ANDRZEJ NIKODEMOWICZ (b.1925): Violin Sonata, Romance, Kolysanka, Notturno, Poèmes I and II.
Catalogue Number: 01P069
Description: Born in Lvov, Nikodemowicz, an ethnic Pole, lived through the Soviet invasion of 1939, the Nazi invasion of 1941 (much of his family was killed and he was homeless for seven years) and the Soviet re-invasion of 1944 before he could think about completing his education and choosing music and, later, composition, as his life journey. All the works here are early, from 1947-52, and orient themselves in Szymanowski's late-romantically inspired modernism with significant echoes of French Impressionism as well. Katarzyna Duda (violin), Agnieszka Schulz-Brzyska (piano). 2009 release.
