FERDINAND HILLER (1811-1885): String Trio, Op. 207, CARL REINECKE (1824-1910): String Trio, Op. 249.

Description: A teacher-and-student program: Hiller's trio was published posthumously and there is no information about its time of composition while Reinecke's was published in 1901 and, according to its publisher, Breitkopf & Härtel, was doing quite well for some time afterwards, proving that there was still an audience for music rooted in Mendelssohn and Schumann at a time when Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht had just appeared. Of course, by that time, regardless of Reinecke's trio's success, his teacher Hiller had all but vanished from recital stages and he is still very sparsely represented on disc. No recordings currently available of either of these works. New Wuppertal String Trio. 2010 release.
