Description: Lovers of choral-orchestral spectaculars will want this for the Exegi monumentum, a 26-minute commission whose premiere performance exactly six months ago as I type this we hear - setting a famous text by Horace, it is a brazen, pagan explosion of sound like a combination of the Romantic Penderecki, Orff and a Rózsa film score. Ancient Rome, in 70mm Super Panavision, is in your living room! The Frescoes (1986) are based on Eastern Orthodox music, Greek in the first, church bells evoked in the second and the third an original evocation of a fresco in a Bulgarian monastery. Ioannes Rex is a 20-minute cantata from 1983 (as is the live recording) celebrating the 300th anniversary of the defeat of the Turks at Vienna. It too is a spectactular piece, representing "Preparations", "Battle" and "Thanksgiving Prayer". Latin-English texts. Anna Mikolajczyk-Niewiedzial (soprano), Andrzej Hiolski (Baritone), Jaroslaw Brek (bass), International University Choir and Symphony Orchestra; Marcin Nalecz-Niesiolowski (Exegi), Festival Symphony Orchestra Odessa; Boris Rosenfeld (Frescoes), Zielona Góra Philharmonic Orchestra; Szymon Kawalla (Ioannes Rex).
