Description: Of uncertain date and for uncertain purpose, this Requiem proved to be one of the most popular in the history of French music, being performed at the funerals of important personages up to the last quarter of the 18th century. It's been recorded before (although none are easily obtainable right now) but the coupling, a grand motet based on the models used at Versailles (we should remember that Gilles was born and spent his career in Provence and the south), is not otherwise available. New 2008 release. Anne Magouët (soprano), Vincent Lièvre-Picard (countertenor), ,Bruno Boterf (tenor), Alain Buet (baritone), les éléments Chamber Choir, Orchestre Les Passions; Jean-Marc Andrieu.
