WILHELM HILL (1838-1902): Piano Trios in D, Op. 12 and in G, Op. 43 (Saskia Lermer [violin], Heidemarie Herzog [viola], Christoph Busching [cello]), Jugenderinnerungen for Piano Four Hands, Op. 31 (Duo con Brio).
Catalogue Number: 01L006
Description: There is next to no information in the notes about this forgotten composer and, like Sterling did recently with the Robert Herrmann symphonies, the notes on the music consist entirely in notes and reviews from contemporary German journals and newspapers. However, we do find that one of his associates called Hill "Frankfurt's Schubert". His melodic gift is undeniable in these trios of 1863 and 1878 but, not surprisingly, he does not plumb Schubert's psychological depths. This music will be an utter delight to collectors of Raff, Eduard and Richard Franck and other purveyors of Mendelssohian melodic charm. Original 2006 release.
