Description: Aside from the well-known Chaminade and Boulanger, we have here another French exponent of elegant, lucid neo-classicism à la Françaix in Arrieu's 1943 Sonatina, a Colloquy from Maconchy every bit as tough and sinewy as her string quartets, a gamelan-type piece from the Australian Boyd, an Argeninian tango from McDowall, a beautiful nine-minute work by Fox which recalls the worlds of Fauré or Chaminade, a surprisingly attractive study in trills and stylized bird-song by Gubaidulina and the only serial work here - Lutyens' 1958 Variations. Christine Hankin (flute), Timothy Murray (piano).
